Do you suffer from Incontinence?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that sit at the base of the pelvis and support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus (in women), and rectum. These muscles are so important in maintaining continence and supporting the pelvis and lower back. Just like other muscles of the body, these muscles over time can become weak, stretched, tight, overactive and/or dysfunctional.
Common causes of pelvic floor dysfunction for women include pregnancy, menopause, chronic constipation and obesity. So many do not know how to properly engage, strengthen and relax these muscles, which can lead to problems such as incontinence, pelvic pain, and prolapse.
Many people believe that urinary incontinence (leaking wee) is just a part of having children or getting older. These life experiences can definitely be a contributing factor, but you’ll be happy to hear that in most cases, it can be managed or treated.
A Physiotherapist trained in Women’s Health can help to diagnose and manage urinary incontinence and equip you with the tools to be able to help yourself. So please don’t be embarrassed – we are here to help improve your quality of life.
